The Christmas season seems to start earlier and earlier every year. I actually drove by a house that already had its lights up last weekend. Its not even Thanksgiving yet.
With the decorations comes the add campaigns and push for people to spend more money than ever, especially in our dire economic conditions.
The Christian Post had an article today about a conservative group that didn’t like one company’s add campaign this holiday season, because it omitted the word Christmas. They are urging Christians to boycott this company this year to show them what Christmas is all about…its all about the name obviously.
There are so many things wrong with this picture I don’t even know where to begin. As if everyone needs to acknowledge that Christmas is about Jesus. As if the people wanting the world to acknowledge this are really doing a great job of portraying it themselves. If Christmas was really about Jesus in America, companies wouldn’t look to the holiday season for such large revenues, because money wouldn’t be pouring into them, it would be pouring out into the communities.
The only “war on Christmas” is the fact that we make the holiday season about boosting our economy and not helping those in need in our communities. What if we took the money we spent on gifts and gave it to people instead? Wouldn’t that be more in the vain of Jesus, who is reason for the season?
